Characterisation of potholes formed on bedrock sandstones at Loei Dun, Phetchabun Geopark, Thailand

Abstract Phetchabun National Geopark comprises varied geosites; one of the fluvial bedrock landforms distinguished here is Loei Dun. This shows many potholes in Mesozoic sandstone Nam Phong Formation (Khorat Group). A genetic study occurrence Dun lends it a higher geoheritage value. For present we did fieldwork and carried out petrographical geotechnical analyses so as to classify characterise consider geotourism potentials. Petrographically, lithic arenite which consists 82-96 percent very fine coarse, well-sorted subangular sand with low sphericity calcite cementation. Our analysis suggests that pothole may be linked rock strength slake durability index high absorption porosity at Field studies confirmed impact other factors such joints/faults, conditions biological weathering. There are five types pothole, viz., simple ones, external furrows, compound potholes, breached lateral ones. The adds educational value geosite Geoparks cultural economic aspects can further strengthened through development area.
